My goal as a Story Coach is to get you ready to write.

The pre-writing development phase (or Imagination phase, as I like to call it) is where most story problems are either solved early or become buried so deeply that they become painful to fix later. A strong premise with weak structure often leads to stalled drafts, inconsistent pacing, shallow character arcs, or endings that fail to deliver on the story’s promise. Investing in coaching before drafting helps writers clarify theme, build narrative momentum, identify plot weaknesses, and create a roadmap that makes the actual writing process dramatically more efficient and coherent.

After 10+ years of studying the craft of storytelling, I've gathered what I've learned and compiled it into a single workbook, The Storyteller's Almanac (you can find it under the books tab on this website). I've also created a YouTube series where I go through the workbook with additional lessons, tips, and tricks. The workbook and the series are an excellent starting point for any aspiring or experienced author to help clarify ideas, build characters and worlds, and create a cohesive story structure that's ready to be turned into a manuscript.

Story Coaching Services

Sometimes, a personal touch can really help in the pre-writing phase. Especially in my early writing years, I wished for someone I could talk to about my writing, to bounce ideas off of, and help point me in the right direction.

I offer a variety of different personalized coaching services, including:

The Story Foundation Session
For writers with an idea but no clear structure
A focused strategy session designed to turn scattered concepts into a workable story framework.
Includes:
  • A 30-60-minute coaching call
  • Premise and core conflict development
  • Theme and story goal clarification
  • Main character motivation analysis
  • Initial structure recommendations
  • Follow-up notes and action plan
Best for writers in the earliest stages who feel excited about their idea but unsure how to shape it into a full narrative.

Character & Arc Development Package
Build characters readers will actually follow
Strong stories are driven by characters with clear desires, flaws, and transformations. This package focuses on building emotionally compelling arcs that support the larger narrative.
Includes:
  • Character motivation and backstory analysis
  • Internal vs. external conflict development
  • Relationship dynamics and tension mapping
  • Character arc planning
  • Villain/antagonist development
  • Written feedback document
Best for writers whose stories feel emotionally flat, unfocused, or disconnected from their protagonists.

Plot & Structure Intensive
Turn a promising idea into a functioning story
This service helps writers organize their story into a cohesive structure with momentum, escalation, and satisfying payoff.
Includes:
  • Plot analysis and restructuring
  • Beat sheet or outline development
  • Pacing and tension evaluation
  • Scene sequencing guidance
  • Stakes and escalation review
  • Ending alignment and payoff analysis
Best for writers struggling with pacing, “the messy middle,” unfinished drafts, or stories that lose momentum.

Worldbuilding & Narrative Integration
For fantasy, sci-fi, and complex settings
Great worldbuilding should strengthen the story—not bury it. This coaching package helps writers create immersive worlds that support plot, character, and theme.
Includes:
  • Worldbuilding consistency review
  • Cultural, political, and historical development
  • Magic/technology system analysis
  • Lore integration guidance
  • Story-world conflict mapping
  • Reader clarity evaluation
Best for fantasy, sci-fi, dystopian, and speculative fiction writers with ambitious settings and layered lore.

Additional Services:
  • 30-minute General Brainstorming sessions (whatever’s on your mind!)
  • Manuscript Alpha Reading (let me be the first to tell you what’s great and what needs improving)
  • Series planning consultation
  • Creative block/problem-solving sessions

Every writer begins with possibility. The difference between an unfinished idea and a compelling novel often comes down to structure, clarity, and intentional development. Coaching helps you identify problems early, strengthen the heart of your story, and build a roadmap that makes the drafting process smoother, faster, and more rewarding.
